Scott's Lead Sled

April 13, 2002

Scott Keown's 1989 Hatchback has lived a full life.  It's a beautiful example of the car I think many of our members own.  Scott got his start in drag racing the same way a lot of people have, by owning a Bowtie car.  He had a Monte Carlo SS that he bought in 1990.  In 1992, Scott went to a Fun Ford Weekend with a friend, and was hooked.  He shopped around for the car you see here, a 1989 Hatch model.  Bought the car in 1993, and drove it everyday until 1997.  After that, it became the project that has turned into the car on this page.

Scott lives in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and we had the pleasure of meeting him at our recent Dyno Day at Total Engine Airflow on April 13.  He's raced with the NMRA in the Open Comp class since 2000, and hopes to step up his racing program this season.

Some modifications to the car include:

  • 351 truck block
  • J302 SVO heads
  • Crane Solid Roller Cam
  • C4 Transmission
  • 4.56 gears

Best time to date: 10.90 @ 124MPH

Scott was hampered on the dyno by a torque converter that was way too tight.  He expects to pick up about half a second on the track this season by loosening up the converter some, and concentrating more on drilling the tree.

Scott wants to thank the most important lady in his life for allowing him to pursue his passion for racing.

Stephanie, all the thanks go to you!

Hardcore wants to wish Scott the best of luck with his racing program in 2002!
