Speaking as a fan,
first and foremost, I was astonished to spend the entire day with
these two gentlemen. They took time out of their schedules so that
we, the Hardcore50.com Staff, could pick their brains about their
plans for 2002. We met up first at Chris's house, to shoot exclusive
pictures of the NEW 25.1C Hot Street car. The expected date of debut
for the new car is the Motorsport Nationals in June. The Real Street
car is being driven this season by Gabe Large, whom many of you might
remember from Factory Stock in 2000. Ed Curtis would have loved to
continue driving, however, business commitments have prevented him
from doing so. Gabe is an extremely competent driver, as he showed at
the first event of the season, in Bradenton. He won the event, over
Fred Felt with a 10.52 pass in the finals. Also, at the same event,
Billy won Hot Street with a 9.32 ET over Duane Busch. This is the
first time that a two-car team won both classes in the history of NMRA
Drag Racing. Chris stated to me " I need to get out of this sport.
Two cars in the finals, I was a nervous wreck!" I asked him which he
would rather have, two cars in the finals, or two cars on the trailer
after the first round. He said, "You know what? You're right!" We
both got a good laugh about that one.
The sheer dedication of
this team, and the mental and physical effort expended by Billy,
Chris, and the talented people that support them, are what make them
winners. The fact that the cars both run great is just a secondary
fact. They want to thank everyone who is a sponsor for supporting
them and helping them live out their goals of becoming the Hot Street
Champion for 2001. Kudos also go to Gabe Large for campaigning the
Real Street car this season. With the minds behind this team, watch
out for them in 2002, both in the Real Street class and Hot Street.
It was our pleasure to spend the afternoon with them, and we hope to
see them succeed in 2002! |
