DaSilva - Ready to Rock!

Joe DaSilva come off the 2002 season
glad to be back racing. Sure he had won twice in 2002 but he was not content
with the performance of his Wolfe Racecraft built Mustang. Rule changes that
came along as Dave Wolfe constructed the Reider Racing Enterprises Mustang
actually made the car obsolete before it hit the track. The intrepid trio of
DaSilva, Wolfe and Job Spetter Jr soldiered on for the remainder of 2002 and
came away with some impressive performances but not impressive enough for
DaSilva.

It is no secret to Ford fans
everywhere that the highly publicized and highly sought after 2003 Cobra is
the new factory King of the Streets. With 390 HP on tap from the factory,
and a sticker under $40k, the Cobra is not only the most bang for your buck
in terms of brute power, but an affordable platform for a killer
street/strip car. With a new cast Iron 6 bolt main block, Manley rods, and
forged pistons the Cobra is ready for whatever you may throw at it. At no
point in memorable history has any factory car offered this stout of a
foundation for the performance enthusiast.

The Bryan (BK) Meyers Story

NMRA Renegade racer Bryan (BK)
Meyers is extremely dedicated. Bryan seems to have the
same affliction as most of us. He's been bitten by what I
like to call the "Mustang Bug". Bryan
purchased the car you see here in December of 1994.
However, some repairs needed to be made before it could be back
in action. As Bryan said, "It was wrecked when we got
it and the front end was pretty wasted. Only the driver's side
front fender was reusable." To me, that's a lot of
work, when there are other, clean cars out there to be
had. But it didn't deter Bryan and his wife, Jennifer,
from rebuilding the car to better than factory specs. The
pictures of it don't really do it justice because it's a super
clean example of what you and I have in our garages.

On the way to East NJ

Well, gang, the time has come for a complete update. The new PBM
Racing machine is well on its way to shocking the Mustang racing
community. Brian and I had the pleasure/honor of spending last
night at Billy Laskowsky's shop, to check out the progress. The
level of detail work in this chassis is unbelievable! Billy
really pulled out the stops this time, and they have assured me
that they would be ready for Atco.

Gassed to Blown: The Swill Racing
Story
Story By: Jim Prasse
Photography By: Brian Carner |
 |
|
Swill Racing evolved back in the fall of 1999.
That was when many nights of swilling beer and bench racing
developed into an aspiring race team that is now in its second
season in the EFI/Renegade class of the NMRA.
Dale George, Pat Carroll, and Scott Lovell make up the
Swill Racing team. Pat
and Scott have always been into Fords and late model Mustangs.
Dale was originally a hardcore Chevy guy, but Pat and
Scott have successfully converted him to the Blue Oval side. The Swill team is one of the only teams that completely built
their race car by themselves and not by a race shop. With the knowledge of Dale, who is an bodyman/mechanic, along
with the help of Scott, Pat, and many friends, they started with
a 1989 LX coupe 4 banger donor car.
After beating the heck out of the car, it was then
completely stripped down to the bones, and built into the
monster that you see on the track these days.
The only work that has been taken to another shop is the
precision machining of the block and other engine components.
All of the assembly work was not completed in a race car
shop, but in the garage of Dale George.

Sometimes Less is More...
Story &
Photography By: Jason Reiss |

In the sport of drag racing, parts
breakage is considered normal. We've all heard how the stock 302
block cannot handle any power, and tends to crack. However, we've
also heard of some freak engines, that hold together no matter what's
done to them. Chad Stokes' 1988 GT has one such engine. Chad
is a firm believer in only replacing things as they break, and so far,
his engine has held up just fine. When you read the parts list,
then see the power this thing has made on the dyno, you'll be more than
a little surprised!

I am Gumby, Damn It!
Story and Photography By: Brian Carner |

For the many of you old enough to remember the classic "Gumby" skits done by Eddie Murphy on Saturday Night
Live! in the 80's, Murphy changed the attitude of the
little animated character for many of us forever. Every time
I hear the word "Gumby", I fondly remember the hilarious skits
with Eddie Murphy's trademarked "I am Gumby, Damn it!" statements
in the skits. However, this story is not about Murphy, but
rather Brighton, Michigan racer Jim Monson, and his incredible 1987 NMCA class-legal Super
Modified Mustang coupe, which is affectionately known as "Gumby."

It's Millen Time!

What does Dan
Millen and Team Livernois do for the rest of the 2002 season? If
WFC was any indication of what the future holds, how about kickin’
ass & taking names! Last season, some starting line issues got
Millen and the boys from Livernois off to a slow start but, they
made quite a comeback and clinched the 2001 NMRA Championship,
setting several records in both FFW and NMRA. Though, Millen had
a rough ride during the fabrication of the new car due to some
adjustments and maneuvering around unforeseen inconsistencies with
rule changes last year, he stayed focused and was determined to
build a state of the art Super Street Outlaw car with the
versatility to cross over as many series as possible for 2002. It
looks like he did it and how! Even though he missed several races
waiting the arrival of his new super sweet ride, it was well worth
the wait.

Sometimes, things need to
change. Whether it be a fundamental change in beliefs, a
change in attitude due to external forces, or just a simple
"I like it better this way", change is
inevitable. Such is the case for BullittBoys Racing, out
of Georgia.

Taking the Road Less

Bill Creek believes in taking the
road less traveled. 42 years of age, and hailing from
Rockfield, Kentucky, Bill runs an 89 coupe, which you can see in
these pictures. He's been street racing as long as he can
remember, and started back in the heyday of musclecar
performance, with a Fairlane and a four-speed.

Scott's Lead Sled
Story By: Jason Reiss

|
Scott Keown's 1989 Hatchback
has lived a full life. It's a beautiful example of the car I
think many of our members own. Scott got his start in drag
racing the same way a lot of people have, by owning a Bowtie
car. He had a Monte Carlo SS that he bought in 1990.
In 1992, Scott went to a Fun Ford Weekend with a friend, and was
hooked. He shopped around for the car you see here, a 1989
Hatch model. Bought the car in 1993, and drove it everyday
until 1997. After that, it became the project that has
turned into the car on this page.

Dedication pays off!
The Number One Hot Street Story...
By Jason Reiss
Photography by Brian Carner
|
 |
| Dedication can be measured in many ways.
It can be measured by numbers, achievements, or simply the appreciation of
a loved one. In this case, however, it is the dedication of two
racers from Pennsylvania that we can chronicle. Billy Laskowsky and
Chris Beningo are a team that has seen both the lows of not even
qualifying, and the highs of having two, yes, TWO, cars finish number one
in an event. The Hardcore50.com staff recently had the pleasure of
spending the afternoon with Billy and Chris.
