NMCA - National Muscle Car Association News and Press Releases

Michigan Muscle Mania – The Mother Ship is Calling her Children Home

Martin, Mich. - To hot-rodders and drag racing fans around the world, nothing says muscle car and automotive high performance like Michigan. Nestled in amongst the Great Lakes, this Midwestern state is the home of the “big three” auto manufacturers, big city street cruises, hundreds of famous builders and racers and so much more.

Simply put, Michigan is “Mecca East” for the performance car fraternity. It’s to this historic state that the Hot Rod Magazine Power Festival featuring the National Muscle Car Association is heading for this coming weekend’s Michigan Muscle Mania event at beautiful U.S. 131 Raceway Park. Located in Martin, Michigan, this track has recently undergone an extensive multi-million dollar renovation, and is one of the finest racing facilities in the country.

With 13 exciting classes of racing on tap, as well as a number of other attractions for the “go-fast-and-look-good-doing-it” crowd, this highly anticipated visit by the bad boys and girls of Street Legal drag racing on June 28 & 29 is sure to send shockwaves throughout the Michigan countryside.

The event, No. 5 on the 2003 NMCA schedule, marks the official mid-point of the season, and with copious amounts of money and prestige on the line, the action out on the quarter-mile is sure to get red-hot.

This is one you don’t want to miss – hundreds of racers will be bringing their blown, nitrous-injected and turbocharged monsters to U.S. 131 Raceway Park for two days of wheel-standing, high-revving, tire-scorching mayhem at Michigan Muscle Mania, and rest assured that only the strongest will survive.

NMCA Super Series Prepares for the 4th annual Jim Sellers Memorial Shootout.

The Hot Rod Magazine Power Festival featuring the NMCA Super Series kicks off its “northern swing” when the baddest boys and girls in street legal drag racing roll into Rising Sun, Maryland’s Cecil County Raceway the weekend of June 7th – 9th.

With points battles beginning to shape up in a number of the NMCA’s 13 heads-up and index classes, the stakes are high, and the racing action in the upcoming fourth round of competition is sure to be nothing short of rowdy, unpredictable and highly entertaining.

At the recent NMCA Super Series tour stop in Belle Rose, Louisiana, a number of strong running new cars made their presence felt in several classes, and the outstanding levels of performance they exhibited guarantees that everyone will be working overtime to fine-tune their combinations in preparation for the 4th annual Jim Sellers Memorial Shootout.

In addition to the great racing action provided by the NMCA Super Series, a special Outlaw 10.5” tire heads-up race, presented by Jeff Prock and Applied Nitrous Technologies, will be held Saturday night following the completion of NMCA qualifying. This special race-within-a-race is sure to bring out some the most radical and wicked 10.5” cars in the region.

Carrying on a great NMCA tradition, JAMA Ministries will be hosting a cookout for racers and fans on Saturday evening at 7 pm. Jama Ministries will continue their efforts with “the Gathering” chapel service at the JAMA race trailer on Sunday morning at 9 am. “Our services are open for everyone and we encourage all racers and fans to stop by and enjoy a great meal on Saturday night, said NMCA Chaplin Mark Walters. “Those thrashing in the pits preparing for eliminations can send someone down to place a ‘to-go order’ and we will see they get it.”

At last year’s Rising Sun event, a record-setting three-day crowd came out to enjoy the street legal racing action, bracket race, car show, bikini contest, swap meet and manufacturers midway, and all indications are that this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever. “We are expecting a huge crowd of fans and racers in Maryland, and the first race of the northern swing is bound to be a great one” said NMCA General Manager Patrick Budd. ”For the 2003 season, the NMCA is combining a contingency and championship points program unrivaled in the street legal industry with outstanding competition in ten heads-up and three index classes, guaranteeing a fantastic weekend of drag racing when the Hot Rod Magazine Power Festival featuring the NMCA Super Series rolls into Cecil County Raceway.”

Fast doorslammer racing is a time-honored tradition in the Northeast, and fans can rest assured that some of the best in the business will soon be heading to Maryland for the 4th Annual Jim Sellers Memorial Shootout. Be sure to circle June 7th, 8th and 9th on your calendar today, because this will be one race that you won’t want to miss!
