How long have you been drag racing?
Since I was 17. I started in my stock 1990 Mustang LX in High
School Eliminator at Raceway Park.
How did you get your start? My dad encouraged me to try
racing my street car at Raceway Park, and I loved it. When I was 18 he
felt I was ready to try racing the 1985 GT, and I started racing
Friday night bracket races with it.
What’s been the biggest challenge to your racing program this season? Compared to last season?
Getting the hang of applying 1000+ horsepower to the drag radials and
getting it down the track without either spinning the tires or
climbing the ring gear! Perfecting our combination to produce a
competitive Drag Radial car.
What would you consider your biggest accomplishments as a racer?
Hitting the 8s on drag radials!
What’s gotten you hooked on the Mustang drag racing scene?
The fun I have at the events, meeting a lot of new friends, the fun
and challenge of competing.
What are your plans for the future? My plans are to
develop my dad's and my racing business, Jacs Racing, Inc., into a
successful and profitable enterprise. Win some drag radial races, and
maybe venture into product distribution. I also plan to attend
grad school for an MBA and get my CPA eventually.
What changes, if any, do you feel the sanctioning bodies need to make
in order for our sport to prosper? N/A
Who are your biggest friends (or enemies) at the track?
My biggest friends at the track are anyone who roots for me! There are
a lot of really nice people in these associations (NMRA, FFW) that I
have become friendly with. I really don't have any enemies!
Who do you fear having to see at the starting line? Why?
Anyone who's faster than me!
What would you tell someone looking to start out in the heads-up
racing scene? Be prepared to spend a lot of money!
Very briefly, tell me the dumbest
mistake you've ever made at the race track? My dad and I
were trying to fix a flat slick on the race car. We put it on the
trailer, jacked it up, and put some Fix-A-Flat in the tire as a
last-ditch effort to save the day. I put it in neutral in order to
spin the rear wheels to spread the fluid out. After we took it off the
jacks, neither my dad or I remembered that the car was still in
neutral. We drove the rig to the air pumps, and when we stopped, the
car fell forward onto the front of the trailer taking out the
radiator.
Anyone you’d like to thank, wives you HAVE to thank, other things not
mentioned you feel are important? I'd like to thank my dad
first- he built the car himself, taught me all I know about engines,
and he supports me and encourages me to do the best I can. He is the
driving force behind me and the car. I'd also like to thank my mom,
Claire, and my boyfriend, Ryan, for their love and support. Also
thanks to Nicolle Douglas of the Girls Can Too website, Dianne and
Brian Piro of BFI, and John Hedenburg and Evan Smith of Muscle Mustang
and Fast Fords for their help!
What music do you listen to? Who’s your favorite? I
listen to metal- my favorites are Slayer, Pantera, White Zombie, Ozzy
and Sabbath, Fear Factory, and Hatebreed. I also listen to some
classic rock, like the Doors.
Any nick names for you? My nickname is Nitrous Ange.
My dad gave me this nickname after I ran with nitrous oxide for the
first time.
Do you have any pets? No- My poodle/cocker spaniel Spike
passed away in February of 2004. :*(
Do you have Kids?
None
What do you like to do as a hobby outside of drag racing? I’ve
really gotten into working out and lifting weights. I gotta be in
shape for all that’s involved with racing, such as enduring the heat,
carrying around gas cans and nitrous bottles, lifting engine blocks
into trucks beds and onto stands, etc. Plus I like to be in shape! I
also tinker around with my guitar when I’m not busy at work or working
on the car.
What track do you dislike the most? I don’t dislike any
particular track; I’ve had good experiences for the most part at all
of them.
Which is your favorite track to race on? I’m torn between
Atco and Maple Grove.
Do you have a lucky charm? What is it? Not really,
but we have a pirate flag that we put on the trailer. I’m hoping
that’ll bring us luck, or at least give us an excuse to board and take
over neighboring trailers. I also have a talking Mr. Mackey doll
(South Park) that may become our lucky mascot, mmkay? ;)
If you could meet anybody you wanted living or not who would it be? Why?
I’d like to meet John Force and find out what it’s like to drive a
funny car. I think he’d be fun to talk to!
