How long have you been drag racing?
For 19 years. I started bracket racing when I was 15. I had a fake
I.D. made so that I could race. Back then you had to be 16 to race on
an N.H.R.A. sanctioned track.
How did you get your start? In the famous words of
Bochephus, " It's a family tradition!" And much like everyone else, on
the streets of my home town.
What’s been the biggest challenge to your racing program this season?
Compared to last season? The competition keeps getting
faster and we keep getting poorer.
What would you consider your biggest accomplishments as a racer?
My reaction times. I had the fastest reaction time in F/S competition
last year. I went .423 in B.G. Every time I stage, I race two races,
the one on the tree and the one down the track. I'm very proud of my
lights and no, I don't guess at the tree. I have NEVER guessed at a
Pro Tree!
What’s gotten you hooked on the Mustang drag racing scene?
I've always owned and raced Fords even when Fords weren't cool. Like I
stated before I got started bracket racing but never really gained a
passion for it. There was no incentive to go faster. Then I found out
that you could go heads-up racing at this new series called Fun Ford
Weekend. I called Bill Alexander, who didn't live far from me, paid my
dues, read the rules and went racing. My first heads-up race was SBSO
in '98. Been hooked ever since.
What are your plans for the future? To stay in heads-up
Ford racing no matter what scale, large or small.
What changes, if any, do you feel the sanctioning bodies need to make
in order for our sport to prosper? Unilateral rules where
cars can run either sanctioning body with only minor changes. More
in-depth television coverage and a way to get the kids involved,
something like the jr. dragster program at N.H.R.A.
Who are your biggest friends (or enemies) at the track? I
have so many friends. This is going to take awhile. Gene Hindman,
Robert Hindman, Shane Williams, Gabe Large, Rich Groh, Chip and
Viviane Haveman, Carlo Catalonatto, Mike Murillo, Rick Scott, Ricky
Best, Mike Galimi, Jaime Meyer, Jaime Robinson, Larry Felts, Jeff
Chambers, Stan Allen, Justin Burcham, Mike Washington, Jeff Swanson,
Paul Neese, Jonathan White, Big Nasty Nash, Lisa and Shane Reffett,
Keith and Wade Noulette, and last but certainly not least, my cousin
Kyle Drennan. As far as enemies, only one, my credit card. I do have a
rival that I don't really consider an enemy. More or less just someone
that keeps me on my toes.
Who do you fear having to see at the starting line? Why?
Any Drag-Radial car, because that would mean that I staged in the
wrong lanes.
What would you tell someone looking to start out in the heads-up
racing scene? "Run Forrest Run!"
Very briefly, tell me the dumbest
mistake you've ever made at the race track? Getting involved
in fist-fights that really don't have anything to do with me or my
crew.
Anyone you’d like to thank, wives you HAVE to thank, other things not
mentioned you feel are important? I'd like to thank my
family for loving me and supporting me through this addiction for cars
that I have. Sometimes I feel really guilty about leaving them to do
this. I'd also like to thank Regan Voorhies for allowing me to
represent him and his family. He could have chosen anyone to drive his
car and he chose me. It is an honor to drive for him.
What music do you listen to? Who’s your favorite?
Anything but elevator music. A few of my favorites are, Bocephus, Kid
Rock, Eminem, Doctor Dre, A/C D/C, and Otis Redding. Pretty diverse
group huh?
Any nick names for you? Moby.....it's a LONG story.
Do you have any pets? Yes, my car.
Do you have Kids? Yes,
two. Devin, he's five and my coach. And Colby, he's one and my
inspiration.
What do you like to do as a hobby outside of drag racing?
Chase women.
What track do you dislike the most? Orlando Speedworld.
Which is your favorite track to race on? It's tough to
pick one so I'll name my favorites, Bradenton Motorsports Park,
Gainesville, Dallas, Gulfport Dragway and Hub-City Dragway.
Do you have a lucky charm? What is it? Yes, my
Pro-Power t-shirt.
If you could meet anybody you wanted living or not who would it be? Why?
Since this is a hypothetical question, I would like to see, Kevin
Prevail, Ed O'Daniels, Darryl Geiger, Cord Oliver and Eddie Duncan
again. These are my closest friends that have crossed the finish line
ahead of me. R.I.P. fella's, I'll see ya'll soon!!
Additional Comments: Just
that there are very few things that I'm truly passionate about, God,
my family, my friends and my car. There isn't anything that I wouldn't
do for any one of them. Don't ever let someone tell you that you can't
do anything. Never stop believing in yourself and NEVER give up.
