How long have you been drag racing?
Heads up since 1995, over all since 1993.
How did you get your start? Bought a Mustang, met
Mike Murillo spent all my money and went racing.
What’s been the biggest challenge to your racing program this season? Trying
to be competitive in Fun Ford and NMRA it’s difficult to be
competitive in both series because of the rule differences. Sponsors
want as much coverage so it’s a lot of work.
Compared to last season?
Last
year raced Renegade, Was racing Renegade for a few years and won 2
championships. Won Every NMRA race in 1999 but had difficulties
because engine parts did not want to stay in side the engine.
What would you consider your biggest accomplishments as a racer?
Winning world
championships and making the switch to outlaw and being competitive.
What’s gotten you hooked on the Mustang drag racing scene?
Mustangs are the way to go. In 1985 I had to have one. That year the
GT could crank a donut on a dime. At 24 ½ I bought one because I could
finally afford the insurance - for about 6 months.
What are your plans for the future?
Building a new car another 10.5 Outlaw car, waiting to continue to put
on a good show for fans and racers alike. Also, looking for a major
sponsor and to make hardcore the most popular website in the world!
What changes, if any, do you feel the sanctioning bodies need to make
in order for our sport to prosper?
Series
are set up in a way that is counter productive to the racers because
of the drastic differences in the rules for Outlaw.
Who are your biggest friends (or enemies) at the track?
Enemies, well, I’ve been chasing down Elias Delatorre, and Mike
Murillo. Not necessarily enemies, biggest friends? There are so many
and I have a blast hanging out with all of them. I’m well known for
having a good time at the track with all of the racers. And to try to
narrow it down is impossible because there are so many great people
that go racing.
Who do you fear having to see at the starting line?
I don’t
have to worry about John Urist anymore because he won’t come out and
play with us, so I would have to say Brad Brand, Mike Smith.
What would you tell someone looking to start out in the heads-up
racing scene?
My Dad
for countless hours on the car, Vivian for buying me a new/used 4
wheeler, My Mom, Corky Bell, Keith Campbell, Kaleb Gonzalez, Pete
Kotzur.
Very briefly, tell us the dumbest mistake you’ve ever made at a
racetrack.
Very
first time at track I get down about 1000 ft. slammed on the brakes
because the radar detector went off. I come back around and Mike
Murillo asked what happened, I didn’t want to say but I finally did,
he called me idiot. It was pretty funny. I don’t race with a radar
detector in my car anymore.
Anyone you’d like to thank, wives you HAVE to thank, other things not
mentioned you feel are important?
My Dad for countless
hours on the car, Vivian for buying me a new/used 4 wheeler, My Mom,
Corky Bell, Keith Campbell, Kaleb Gonzalez, Pete Kotzur.
What music do you listen to?
Just about everything.
Fast music makes me race faster.
Who’s your favorite?
No favorites, Miller
Lite I know its’ not a band but I like it anyway.
Any nick names for you?
Not anymore but I used
to have a few
Who gave it to you? Along time ago Jamie
Meyer started calling me Turbo Chip. Now he calls me the lowest paid
male stripper in the country.
Why? I have no Idea.
What do you like to do as a hobby outside of drag racing?
Drink beer, practice
law, only as a hobby though…
What track do you dislike the most?
Orlando Speedworld
Which is your favorite track to race on?
I really like Houston
Raceway Park, My home track, The Mac Daddy double throw down!!
Do you have a lucky charm?
Used to, Nope can’t
even remember what it was, guess it wasn’t that lucky. I should get
one, maybe a lucky beer can? Just kidding.
What is it?
Vivian is really my
lucky charm!
If you could meet anybody you wanted living or not who would it be?
I don’t know. Never
thought about that.
