ALL Right Guys and Gals...we all know the 4.6 2v mod motor have cylinder head bolts are alomost 15 inches long....Right!

Here's the situation...Friend of mine called me up and asked me to pick up his block, the problem is the 2 cylinder head bolt threads in the block is stripped. ..Cannot junk the block because he put lot of money into it. So this is my next job...any good ideas on how to fix it. Drilling out is not a problem, I can get long drill bit, but the main question is how to get heli-coil inside, along with metric tap....:dontknow:

stang, tell your buddy he is a dumby for breaking something like this! LOL No easy way to fix that! Hope you guy's have a good machine shop around. That sounds like a though one to get fixed but mite be done. Hope you guy's are replacing them with ARP stuff. How did he strip the threads anyway?

he is a laugh:D ..He didn't know it is torque to yield bolts, he max'd out on final turn.

The machine shop in my area won't touch it. They are not so familiar with modular motor, seems like I am the only one in my area.:dontknow:

I can get long drill bit to drill out damage threads.
My friend is Tool and Die maker, he can fabricated long metric tap.
The 60,000 dollar question is how the heck I am going to put heli coil inside?:dontknow:

IMHO, I'd look in the yellow pages for a machine shop that specializes in "broken tap removal". I know, you said broken bolt, BUT they should have an "ELOX" machine that can remove the broken bolt AND leave the original threads. After that, you can worry about thread repair, if necessary.

No No..the bolt is not broken..the threads are stripped inside the block, on Modular motor the threads are so deep inside the block, look at the first post, I said the head bolt are almost 15 inches long...

Alot of machine shops are scared from what I here when you say Modular. The two valve is really like a push rod motor but the cams are on top and there is a set of chains. Do you have a pic? I have not ever payed enough attention to the two valve. See if The Game has any answer's to that. He seems to be the two valve expert.

I don't have digital camera to take picture.
Yes I have been trying to get hold of Mr. Wheeler, see my other thread.

What difference does it make that it's a modular block? Are the heads still on it? If so pull them off and VOILA, you've got a regular old block, and a little more room to work. As far as getting a heli coil down in there I've got no freaking clue. I'd say your friend just learned a very expensive lesson on reading manuals prior to doing something you're not familiar with. It's easy for me to say that though since i'm not stuck with a motor I can't use. He didn't try to re-use the old head bolts did he? PEACE, ;)

Dude ...the heads are off the block...I am guessing that you haven't seen Modular block or cylinder head bolt yet!

The thread are at the bottom of block near main bearings webbing area, and it is not accessible from bottom, and it is above 12 to 14 inches below the deck [top] of the block.

Well...........I'm not in Ohio. I'm here at home in Baytown. FFW Houston race is about four minutes from the house. Plus, FFW pays $7500 to win where the NMRA pays $1000 to win. So.....where would you be? :D Thanks Modster.....I'm still not doing to good here either. If I can ever seem to close it up at the finish line I'll be just fine. Gave Reggie Burnette Jr. a win this time. Broke out by .003 after having him covered .450 to .489 at the tree. Ya'll should have seen the temper tantrum I threw over that one.

....but I digress.

Take the torque wrench away from your friend and smack him over the head with it. Junk the block. New '99 & up GT block is around $350 from Ford. I don't care how much money he has in the bad one. The Heli-Coil won't stay put. It's simply too far down in the head to get to. Plus, there's a good chance that it'll screw with your torque settings with the TTY bolts.

That kind of racing takes an art form to prefect! You will get it! Lots of practice. All it takes. I would hope that stang's buddy is going with ARP's! I will totaly agree on this one.

Ha ha ha ha ha ....o boy ...I wish you were here to see his face when I show him your statement.  I have though about it too[replaced the block]. The good news is he is willing to pay me to put the motor together. His quote is "Fugg it...Money is no object , just get it done right" :) :D So Tomorrow I will place an order on block and go from there.

MODULAR scares me too. I need pushrods in my motor. If money were no object why was he trying to put it together by himself in the first place? PEACE, ;)

Smart man, professionally built is the way to go. That's what I did, not enough experience, and not enough time. I do however trust myself to put it in the car and hook everything else up. PEACE, ;)

Last season was a breeze. This year there's all types of things going against me. New business matters, little stuff with the car, personal stuff...............

My main problem is a lack of time. No time to work on the car and no time to practice. Pretty bad living four minutes from HRP and not being able to get there and get some seat time.

Know what you mean. Spent alot of time dealing with the crap that comes with " test and tune". To get the swing going!:D

I am just few minutes away from firing this motor up, but the weather is very bad, very windy and rainy. Oh well maybe later in the day, I am soaking wet. hmmm time for me to take a nap.:D :)

I still have the old block, but this one is new block from Ford Dealer. I am saving the old block, just in case, someone will come with idea of repairing the stupid stripped threads.

I got the car running for the first time since November, sounds great. My buddy will be ready for Grove real soon.
