Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
hey guys wondering if anyone has any experience with these mufflers. ive got flowmaster 40s with n x pipe now and i dont like the sound and its heavy and a PIA to put on and off, the trans is out of the car every other day cuz its a POS tremec so i was thinking if switching to a 3inch h pipe setup and just dumping them right near the tailhousing of the trans instead of running them all the way back. id like a small muffler like this for fitment and groud clearance issues. would these be ok for street use. how do they flow? btw its a 408w 11.1 compression solid roller to about 6500rpms,thanks in advance

I run the F/M 40's in 3.5 on my car as well. Mine dump at the rear axle with no h or x pipe, just 3.5 from the headers back. It sounds nasty but its loud as hell, street driving would be out of the question. I know the mufflers are somewhat of a restriction because it runs about .08 quicker with just the straight pipes. Dynomax is one of the few ive found that offer cfm #'s for their mufflers, but i havent found too much flow info for any of the other popular brands, so short of buying and testing all of them its kind of a crap shoot. Fwiw i found no gain with either the H or X set-up nor did it sound any quieter, the noise is not a concern for me though.

Correct, I wouldnt "think" Bullets would be quieter than a Flowmaster but i honestly dont know that for a fact, just basing that on how they are constructed, depends alot on the engine.
Generally the least restrictive the muffler, the louder it is so its a compromise. Not sure how it is where your at but around here the acceptable noise limits really depend on the Officer and his/her mood on that particular day.

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
i''ve had bullets, flows, and spintech race mufflers on my car. the dynomax were loud!!!! I never had any issues on the street with cops, but i also wasnt revving the crap of mine either on the street. My Spintechs are a little quieter than the bullets, but i had bullets on my car to make a lil more HP.

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
I use the dynomax race bullets in a muffler class car and agree with Stephen Johnson that they are very loud. Of course I do not have tailpipes which would help to lessen the sound. Still should be louder than the 40's though.

+1 thats good ol VA for ya, and you pretty much hit every post dead on the head.
The bullets are worth a lil bit more power but the noise it the only downside.
I didn't see any gain from the H pipe either.

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
I put bullets on my car for one race. Needless to say it didnt quiet my car down from open headers at all.
Me open headers

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
3.5" bullets on my buggy, and it is way too loud for street driving. It's not quite open headers, but pretty darn close, especially when you're on the gas.
I was running 3" flowtech mufflers with an h-pipe and they dumped by the rear axle, I switched to the 3.5" bullets and dumped them just past the trans. I'm planning to put the 3" system back on next year so I can do a comparison test, I don't think I gained even a tenth by switching, and if that is the case I'm going back to the quiet exhaust. I like surprising people ripping off mid/high 8 second passes with a car thats quieter than most street machines...

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
Bullets are basically glass packs for race cars. There isn't much to them and they are loud as hell. I'd say almost as loud as an open header but with a smoother tone to them.

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
thanks for all the good info guys. i appriciate it...are there any quieter alternatives to the bullets that are still the same size? even if i dont gain power it will still be way easier to put on and off and to me thats worth the switch. a lot less weight also

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
even though i could probably get away with it...ive ran open headers on the street for a while and didnt have a problem...i dont rev it up going thru town or anything..usually under 2000rpms..i dont care if its loud when im getting on it but at less then 2000rpms it would have to be quiet enough not to attract cops from 20 miles away haha.

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
On my 11:1 331, i notice the 3in H pipe with 3in magnapacks are quieter than just open header. The end of the muffler is about 1.5ft from the rear end.

Dont mind the rocker noise, i fixed that.

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
I run the bullets on my car and I do some street driving with it, not a terrible who lot they are loud though. But, my experience is there not as loud as a open header at least on my car anyways.
Its extremely loud with the open headers, riding down the road at cruise speed about 2800, you can actually carry on a converstation in my car.
I am going to make a attempt to put 4" exh under it with some bullets were gonna see how it works out LOL.

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
I have them on mine dumped underneath. Running an X-Pipe also, definitely quieter than open exhaust for me, but still pretty damn loud. Bout 20-30 minutes of driving and my ears will be ringing for hours after. Still lots of fun though and really dont care on my car since its just for screwing around really.
Had Spintechs on it prior, and definitely like the Race Bullets way better.

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
I'm going to put a set of them behind the axle on the wagon to help quiet the car a little, like a resonator, I'll have ultraflos ahead of the axle.
A buddy of mine has 3" versions bolted to the headers, they do take some of the edge off what would be open headers though.

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
Race Bullets will kind of take the edge off of open headers, but I wouldn't exactly consider them "mufflers". LOL!
As David said, they might work OK as a secondary muffler, but I wouldn't consider them as a primary muffler for anything street driven.
Magnaflow or Dynomax "straight through" mufflers are longer and have more absorption material and work far better when it comes to "muffling" without restriction.
There isn't much to the Bullets.

Re: Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers
3" bullets on my 363. i run them straight off the headers, using a ball and socket setup that was already on my headers when i bought them. engine probably should have 3.5", but it actually made over 650hp through a 3" exhaust on the dyno.
i might cut my old Dr. Gas X pipe apart and reweld it to fit these headers. it sounds much better, and i doubt it would hurt power much if at all. i would bolt the bullets to the back of the x pipe which is what my 306 had.
