Default **The BLACK COUPE Build...From "JYD" to "True10.5 Showcar"**

I've been meaning to post a thread on this car for a while but now that it's nearing completion I think I will just skip all the suspense of the past year and a half that it's been getting put together. This is my good friend Travis' car that he's been busting his ass on for years. He's been telling me to do this for a while and im finally getting around to it. But I figure instead of just letting people know what's going on now, i'd like to show the real beginings and how the car got to where it is today. Back in the days of running low 10's and 9's then blowin a head gasket at the track friday, having it tore down and fixed by saturday night. This is the car that started to get our name out there, it was known as the "JYD Coupe". It had a rough life in the beginning but now it sits pampered in its' own personal heated and cooled garage.

It had a stock block 331, stock fuel system, stock computer, dry kit, and a STOCK t-5. People laughed as we pushed it thru the staging lanes cause it was about 4 different colors, primered quarter panel, mismatched hood with a 1" of dust n dirt on it. As soon as it left they sure changed there mind's real quick and knew it wasn't there for no damn car show. It broke necks all right...when the score board lit up and even more so when people would come up to ask what the hell was in it.

This is what a 9.81 @140 T-5 car looks like....

Doesn't look like much does it??? It was a moneymaked though that's for sure.

LOL the vid of this pass the mic on my camera picked up this redneck dude saying "He aint gonna stop dat sumbitch in da quarter mile"

Well it's now 2007 and the car now has a Dart block 348, AFR 205's, Carb, and a G-force T-5. Oh yeah it's also all 1 color now and the engine bay has been filled in. Unfortunatly carb and motor problems we never got a real good pass on it as we were still learning the carb thing when the motor needed some attention. It ran a best of 10.3 @133 N/A with the 5spd and was only shifted at 6500 or so due to the synchro's. It was designed for 7200 rpm shifts so needles to say there was some power that was being left out.

I remember this day pretty vividly....stopped by and Travis was so excited he just got his Pro-systems carb in and it was money well spent. Unfortunatly we couldn't take the car out to test because there was scattered showers everywhere. I really wish we did otherwise we would of avoided probably the worst night of our life's when we got hit by a drunk driver later that night. The good thing is everybody is ok today but definatly a day I wont soon forget.

Here's the aftermath with Travis' truck...

With all that behind it was time to re-do the car. The Autopower cage just wasn't going to cut it anymore, motor needed a little more :chacha: and since it was going to be down for a while there was no sense in not tryin to do it right the first time.

Sent off to Manny's Custom Chassis for a Moly cage and mini-tub...

While we waited for the chassis to be done. The garage was added on to so the car had it's own room, LOL. With all the amenities, A/C , Heat, Air connections, TV, and surround sound for some motivational music of course. Im still trying to get them to add that stripper pole and bunk beds though... to no avail :ahah:

Excuse my mess on the side of the shop. I had my motors and parts scattered over there...

Hmm painted valve cover or carbon fiber???

Engine Bay gettin redone and all smoothed out...

Antone filling up some holes left from when it was EFI

After a trip to Mark's House where he, Pj, and Antone worked there magic. They make it look too easy...

Time to drop the little bird motor in there as we call it...

My dad and Travis puttine the back window back in.

Time for wiring...Matt did a killer job re-wiring the entire car with the painless kit. I think first thing wired was the nitrous kit....LOL you know we cant forget that.

Time to get the interior in, new carpet, seat, and re did the dash and all the panels.

Mounted shifter, added gauge cluster, and shift light

Can't forget the passenger seat for the girlfriend....she doesn't know it but she gets to hold the NOS bottles

I found a deal on these Alumastars as the prostars didnt have the offset needed. Little polishing and they were as good as new.

Here she sits now. Got the front end off and PJ is painting it and adding the lower valence to it.

Oh yeah a couple motor pics.

So that's where we are at today. The doors are currently off and Pj is painting them as the front end is already painted so the car should be in the body shop this week for the rest of the car. I will have pics once i'ts all back together and hopefully we can start testing soon and see what this little bird motor can do and learn a little more on the nitrous and carb setup before we step up the game. But dont worry it wont be long now.

Badass Car you built there Travis. Im sure he wants to thank all the friends involved in making this happen, Antone, Mark, Pj, Matt, Manny, Jay P, Buck, and we cant forget about Bob

Looks awesome. Sucks that you had to go through the ordeal you did to warrant the rebuild but its all better now. What size rear tire and how much is the rear narrowed?

Yeah well everything happens for a reason as they say. Now he got a 08 Black truck to match the car so it's not so bad. Definatly somethin I never want to go thru again. I cant even drive out late @ night when all the drunks are out drivin like fools cause I look in my mirror and if I see somebody speeding behind me or weaving thru lanes I start to freeze up....it's a shitty feeling for sure.

It's a 29/10.5 and I dont know how much the rearend is narrowed other than ALOT, LOL. The wheels are 15x12 Alumastars

Awesome car. Can't say enough about it and how I love the way it all turned out. Makes me wish I would have went ahead and mini tubbed my coupe. I watched that first video up there, man alive, that car looked like it 60' footed like a damn dragster. Looks great. Can't wait to see current videos of that beast ripping it up at the track again.

Here's some updated pics from last week. I didn't get a chance to stop by and get pics of it in the booth because they already had the entire car knocked out in 2 days and it was already back getting the front end put on. It's got all new Ford OEM side moldings on it just waiting for a few that were backordered. Also hood was ordered as well but it's a month out so wont have any complete pics for a while. Also gonna drop the front end with some softer springs and get it cut and buffed when it's finally in 1 piece. In the meantime gonna take it to the chassis shop and get it scaled and what not, some new tint, finish interior, and check everything over 2 or 3 times so it will be ready to rock and roll come late march or early april.

So it's been a month and have just been trying to get together alot of little stuff. The car went to the chassis shop and got scaled and new front and rear springs installed. Also made a gear change, added the moldings and badges, and still working on the wiring. Matt and Travis got the lights, brake lights and the power windows working. But everything is headed in the right direction, that is if the hood would get here anytime soon.... :bang: Cant wait to take the car out for some testing as there's a big learning curve ahead so we'll take it one step at a time and hopefully good things happen. STAY TUNED.....

Ready to go back to the chassis shop....

Picked her up from the chassis shop...

Back Home....

Travis tearing down the rearend so we can make a gear change

My dad and Joe setting up the new gears...

Matt wiring up the lights

Got the door panels installed and the new Guages look badass.

Had the crew out doing what they do best and ...

Here she sits almost ready.

Thanks for the motivation guys the car has definatly come along way and even though it takes times it makes it that much better in the end. Unfortunatly I dont know if we will ever see a 5spd back in the car again as much as I'd like to they are a big step up in the learning cover once you try and go this fast. Not to mention most organizations dont allow the type of 5spd tranny we would need for this type of car.

The month has been slow haven't got to do much work to the car but there's not much left. Travis got a nice break from this and went on a cruise so didnt get anything done that week. But now he's back and it's time to bust ass and get this thing done. Unfortunatly I go on my cruise the end of May and it appears I might miss the debut of the car which would SUCK. Hopefully we can get it out before then though. We had to take the tranny out because it was leaking from the front pump and had everything checked out and found out the clutches were gone. Yeah that sucked but we're gonna get that fixed and get a couple upgrades done as well, prolly change the stall on the converter while it's out as well.

Finally got the Hood in....

Pj working his magic on it....

Finally got it mounted on there.

Another Pic of the gauges all lit up. Should look pretty good at nite

Oh yeah almost forgot picked up a new 28ft Enclosed Trailer. Got a killer deal on it and went and picked it up straight from the factory in Waco. Luckily a deposit was put on it before Travis went on vacation as apparently 4 people where ready to buy it. Had to get it with A/C as well cause it's too damn hot down here in the summer not to have it.

Pretty much has everything we could ask for aside from a ####ter and a stripper pole.....

Well got the hood painted and mounted, just need a couple more fasteners on the front and she should be ready to go.... Cant wait to get it out in some sunlight and get some better pics.

Yeah I just got back from my cruise so i've been out of it for a week, but it looks like she's ready to go. We are going to try and go Wednesday if not then we will be out Friday.

Here are the Final Pics, there isn't plans to change anything from how it looks right now. It's ready for the track. Hope you guys enjoy the pics and I added a vid as well.

I have followed this build on a few boards. It makes my sticker peck out for sure! That is one bad ride. I wish I could get a group of friends like that to come help me finish my junk.

Whoa what a long night it was last night. But in the end i feel we learned quite a bit and are moving in the right direction. The car ran ok I wasn't expecting it to set the world on fire and after all as good as it sounds it's still just a 302 based motor with some 205's and a victor jr intake. The converter is way off and the car was a total pig off the line with the best 60ft of 1.67. I would say another 1500rpm for the converter and it would be good for the motor, however we dont intend to run it on the motor so much so if we loosen it up 500-700rpm I think it would be good for the spray but again im no expert by any means. The chassis is way loose and the car was literally hopping off the line. Gonna check into the shocks and see what changes can be made. We're still learning with the carb stuff so everyday is a new lesson for us but i think we'll get a handle on it soon enough. I'm certain we had too much octane, fuel psi, and drop a step to a colder plug. As well as change out the power valve as it might be resulting in a slight stumble and bog.

Antone and his son out there helping out.

Unloading ole Jyd off the trailer for the first time at the track..

Before all the homeboys got there...

Hope we got enough plugs. Probably need a few more since Pj hooked it up with a full 200lb bottle of nitrous....

Pj's badass airbrushed helmet...

Pj and his brother Mark wondering when we get to spray this bitch. Mark has a killer ass black 69 Pro Touring Camaro with a BBC and a STICK of course..

Aww hell the southside crew is here ...

Making coil-over and shock adjustments.

End of the night finally made our last pass and best pass.

Main thing is to have fun.
You might think about installing a wench in the trailer.
Sure makes loading and unloading MUCH easier.

Oh yeah that's what it's all about for us. It was always about fun we never competed in races or events we just had fun going out there test n' tuning on the car. We got out satisfaction out of the timeslips and poppin some cold one's after it's all said and done. He already has a wench just hasn't hooked it up yet but im sure he will soon as the trailer could use some furnishing like a tool box instead of the bucket of tools we threw together, LOL. But we do have the 200lb nitrous bottle on hand, can't leave home without that.

"DECISIONS DECISIONS"

That would be the story of tonights events. Well we loaded up for the track tonight and see if we could inprove on anything and I think we just found another headache....lol. Car right now just doesn't hit the tires hard enough. IMO it's the converter and it's just too damn tight and it's not flashing the converter high enough on the spray to really hit the tires. It stalls to about 4k on the brake. And as soon it's released it just leaves like it's got 3.08 gear or something HAHA. Only cuts a 1.49 60ft.

Also seem to be having a few problems with the carb still. Motor was originally a street oriented with a 5spd and that's how the carb was built. Now it's got a 29" tire, and a c4 with a 4k stall converter. Thanks to Orange Powerhouse Rudy for helping out with some knowledge tonight. He said the carb might not be getting a good enough signal compared to the original setup it was intended for. So will be calling Prosystems tomorrow and see what he thinks.

Dilemma...
Last pass the tranny puked the fluid out on the top end so we gotta pull it anyways and get it checked out. See how the converter is as well and im hoping to change it out into a custom one as well. So we spend $$$ on a good converter and put it back in with the c4?? And reading up on the C4's there maintenance is really high and we are not excited AT ALL about having to take this bastard out. So we sure as hell dont want to be taking them out every 30passes for rebuilds, if necessary. Other option is we have a stock case glide with a brake on it ready for a rebuild. Do we spend the money fix the glide and get a badass converter with it?? Drawbacks to the glide is we only have an 8.2 deck nitrous motor right now and is that too much tranny for us now???

Any Ideas???

Here's some of the latest pics guys.

Mark just got the camaro running a day earlier so they thought they would test it out. So he decided to cruise it on out to San Antonio with us. No better way to find out how much of a street car it is than drive it an hour and half from home. It's a 500+ BBC and a Tremec

Whoa what a Night... a week... HELL a past few months. FINALLY after been kicked in the ass for so damn long trying to sort the issues out it FINALLY did it. It's been a long time in the making and words cant describe the feeling of tonight. It's been nearly 4 months since we've had anything worth talking about and even then there's wasn't **** to talk about. We've been fighting suspension and transmission gremlins over and over again. From day one we've been fighting the chassis with it just unloading the tires and being too soft. Then the tranny would puke fluid again and again. But Travis never wouldnt let it kick his ass. The last time at the track we thought we'd step it up and maybe the suspension would react better, NOPE!! A little better but it was still far off. Unfortunatly that night our friend hurt the motor in his street car. So Travis said WTF load your car in the trailor and i'll drive the mustang home, no big deal. Yeah so he drove it 40 miles to Angel's shop in San Antonio and dropped it off as Angel was nice enough to let him keep it there for a few days until he had time to drive down and pick it up.

So this week Travis took it back to the chassis shop after my dad and Joseph put some new gears in and dropped the tire size to 28's. Manny made a couple changes like it was nothing and said take the sumbitch to the track and put some fire to her LOL. Hell today was my birthday and everybody was asking me where i want to go eat and drink. **** I said I dont know about yall but I'll be at the track, my birthday can wait. Sure am glad I did. Before tonight the fastest it has been was 9.56 @ 144 w/1.50 60ft in the 1/4. The night he had drove it to San Antonio it went 6.00 @118.95 in 1/8 but 60ft was 1.48 and he lifted after that. So needless to say those aren't anything thing to really talk about. Coming in and saying it COULD or SHOULD do this just isn't me. So finally I have some good progress to report. We took it back to the track with the same exact tuneup we didn't change a thing but put the MT 28x10.5 and the 3.73 in. This was only with 850psi bottle pressue and a pretty reasonable safe tuneup according to the plugs.

60ft.....1.29
1/8et...5.58
1/8mph..125
1/4et.....8.72
1/4mph...153

Does it have more in it on KILL...Yeah, but how much longer the C4 will hold is anybody's guess. It's not a world record by any means but to us finally having an 8sec slip is what our goal has been all along and to do with a 8.2deck SBF makes it a little more special. Only way I could describe tonight was You could kick me in the nuts and still couldn't wipe the small off my face. Hoepfully vid will be up later today!!!

Sorry dont have any pics from tonight just a couple from a car show a couple months ago with some friends.

Yeah that's him.

Sorry took so long on the video, been a busy weekend. It's from a camera so the quality isn't the greatest but it's better than nothing. Also the slicks were just mounted with no screws so im sure if we screw them down and run on a better track prep there is more potential in the 60ft. From the vid it doesnt look like a 1.29 imo. Guess we'll see how things go next time, hopefully the weather's about the same and we can get some more out of it.
